Pioneer Conversions - Pickup Conversions

We are building economy electric powered vehicles, by converting select used cars, such as small pickup trucks.

Why would we consider converting pickups?

Pickups have many parts, and only a few will be changed in the conversion to an EV. The original parts of the truck should be easy to service.

This includes:

- Interior parts, including door handles, window mechanisms, latches, locks, and fasteners.

- Heating and air conditioning

- Exterior parts, including lights, warning signals, horn, fenders, doors, grille, trunk, and bumpers

- Suspension parts, including shock absorbers and springs and all the parts related to the brakes

- Convenience items, such as mirrors, sunroofs, etc.

- Radios and Sound systems

Many trucks have some additional advangages when converting to an electric vehicle. A primary advantage is the ability to place the batteries in metal boxes under the pickup bed. This results in a low center of gravity for a good handling vehicle, and allows easy access with a tilt bed mechanism. Most trucks were designed with a frame that is easily capable of carrying the weight of the batteries.

Our experience has shown that the S-10 based pickup has a wider frame, which allows more battery room, and is the best choice for conversion to an electric powered pickup. The S-10 series of pickups also has a heavier capacity.
